Mediatakeout is reporting that Lip Gloss-poppin rapper Lil Mama, whose real name is Niatia Jessica Kirkland, has lost her mother after a long battle with cancer. Tyra Kirkland was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. Lil Mama received the news of her mother’s passing while at an Atlanta concert; and she immediately returned to New York City.

A new biography chronicling the formation of NYC hip-hop pioneers The Juice Crew is on it’s way to the big screen in the form of a film called The Vapors, according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Cuba Gooding Jr. will play rapper Marley Marl in the new biopic David Banner is slated to portray Biz Markie and newcomer Keke Palmer will portray Roxanne Shante. Jackie Long will fill the role of Big Daddy Kane.
