Aretha Franklin could lose her home to the Tax Man. The Queen of Soul says an attorney’s mistake caused her $700,000 1927 brick-mansion in Detroit to slip into foreclosure over $445 in 2005 taxes and late fees. Arethan now owes $19,192 in back taxes on the property between 2005-2007. The legendary songstress also owes $18,746 in back taxes and fees for the 2006 and 2007 tax years, but foreclosure proceedings on those debts wouldn’t begin until next year.
That was a kickass article. What do I do now?

Another interesting story of the foreclosure crisis. It’s doubtful that she won’t be able to come up with the money to pay back the taxes and save the home, but even celebrities with expensive lawyers can end up in the foreclosure process.
It seems a little bit strange that the county would file the paperwork over $445, though, instead of just sending out a few demand letters and requesting they be paid. Of course, if they did that, and her lawyer didn’t respond, then she might want to consider better representation to stay away from embarrassing stories like this one about foreclosure.
