Bernie Mac Dead: Bernie Mac Dies At 50

Listen up, America, Bernie Mac has passed away. Sadness. Comedian Bernie Mac died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago early Saturday morning, a rep for one of the Original Kings of Comedy confirms. He was 50.

Mac had been hospitalized recently for pneumonia. A rep for Bernie, whose real name was Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, said that he had been responding well to treatment for the illness, adding that the one-time star of FOX’s The Bernie Mac Show was expected to recover, despite widespread rumors about his impending death.
“[He] passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital,” his rep, Danica Smith, told PEOPLE. “No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected.”
“The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs,” the Associated Press wrote Saturday.
The Bernie Mac Show, which ran on FOX from 2001 through 2006, earned Bernie a Golden Globe nomination.
He also appeared in the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, Transformers, and Bad Santa. Bernie Mac is survived by his wife Rhonda McCullough, who he married in 1977, their daughter, Je’Niece, and granddaughter, Jasmine.
R.I.P Bernie.
