BET’s 106 & Park is taking on the issue of teen violence during a special episode to air this afternoon.
The series along with therapist Dr. Jeff Gardere, will gather a panel of experts –including city officials, role models, victims, and survivors — to carefully examine the impact teen violence has among youth.
Last month, The White House dispatched two Cabinet officials in response to the beating of 16-year-old Derrion Albert in a street brawl that resulted in death in Chicago.
Last year a 13-year-old boy was fatally shot in the chest in Harlem, New York. Homicide is the leading cause of death for African Americans and the second leading cause of death for Hispanics among 10 to 24 year olds, BET notes.
