MTV will host an inaugural ball for President-Elect Barack Obama at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington on January 20.
The “Be The Change Inaugural Ball” will feature a guest list of recording artists, celebs and government officials, but hundreds of young adults will have an opportunity to be selected to attend the star-studded gala based on their demonstrated record of volunteerism.
At the request of students, Ludlum Elementary School in Long Island, NY’s Hempstead Union Free School District was re-named Barack Obama Elementary School in honor of President-Elect Obama.
“Just to watch these kids after the board voted on what they asked them to do, they were so elated,” school district superintendent Dr. Joseph Laria told ABC News. “You want to talk about ‘Yes we can?’ That was a lesson in democracy.”
President-Elect Barack Obama joins Leonardo DiCaprio, Jon Hamm, and Olympic hero Michael Phelps, as one of GQ Magazine’s four “Men of the Year” for 2008.
According to preliminary Nielsen ratings numbers, Sunday night’s 60 Minutes interview with President-Elect Barack and Michelle Obama drew 24 million viewers, capturing the newsmagazine largest audience since Jan. 17, 1999.
