It’s back to Oprah for BeBe! A Nashville judge has dismissed a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against gospel singer BeBe Winans. The 47-year-old gospel singer had been accused of shoving his former wife to the ground during an argument about their children last Feb. 13.
General Sessions Judge Gloria Dumas dismissed the charge Friday after the counselor reported Winans did not need treatment.
“To be exonerated of all charges shows the power of trusting in God, and is a wonderful Christmas gift for me and my children,” BeBe said in a statement Monday.
Winans — a four-time Grammy winner — is a judge on the BET TV talent competition Sunday Best. Last month, BeBe was dismissed from a starring segment on The Oprah Winfrey Show after The Queen of Talk came under fire for featuring the artist on her show while publicly slamming convicted batterer Chris Brown for similar offences against singer Rihanna.
The former wife of gospel singer BeBe Winans says she’s pleased with the decision of Oprah Winfrey to remove him from her “Karaoke Challenge” until his domestic violence case is resolved.
Debra Winans made headlines last week when she questioned O’ss stance against domestic violence in light of her ex-husband’s continued appearances on her talk show despite a pending case for domestic violence. In February, BeBe was arrested for allegedly shoving Debra to the pavement outside of her home during an argument over child custody. He is due back in court on Jan. 20.
“It further demonstrates the fact that Oprah continues to be a strong voice against domestic violence and that she’s willing to take the steps necessary to defend the defenseless,” Debra said in a statement last week.
Earlier in this year, Oprah devoted an entire hour to domestic violence after Rihanna was beaten by Chris Brown.
Oprah Winfrey is keeping gospel singer BeBe Winans — an alleged wife beater — off her show until domestic violence charges against him are resolved.
In February, BeBe was charged with pushing his ex-wife to the ground during an argument over custody of their children. Last Friday, the gospel singer made several appearances on Oprah’s “Karaoke Challenge.” The event set off a firestorm of controversy, with some commentators questioning whether Oprah was guilty of a double standard by including Beatdown BeBe on the show when she practically ripped Chris Brown a new ass following his assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna.
