Blair Underwood has turned his attention toward the bright lights of Broadway now that the cancellation of his NBC series, The Event, has left him with some unexpected free time in his schedule.

The actor’s been tapped to make his Broadway debut as Stanley Kowalski in director Emily Mann’s upcoming revival of the Tennessee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire. Streetcar, set in New Orleans’ French Quarter, revolves around an ex-teacher and socialite Blanche DuBois, who moves in with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley (Underwood).

The play, produced by Front Row Production, is scheduled to bow on Broadway in the spring of 2012.
