Cedric the Entertainer has partnered with TV Land to star in a comedy spinoff of the network’s hit show Hot in Cleveland, a show which features Hollywood’s most beloved octogenarian, Betty White.

The new twist — which will kick off in Hot episodes airing this summer — will see Cedric will take center stage as a local pastor who finds himself tangled up in the latest drama of the series four core stars.

“We’re definitely going to bring people quality entertainment and laughs with this new show. I’m very excited to be working with TV Land and the creative team of Hot in Cleveland,” the stand-up comic told Entertainment Weekly Monday.

Ced, whose sitcom credits includes a five season run on The Steve Harvey Show, is currently working with the show’s creator Suzanne Martin on a script for pilot episode of the still-untitled series.

“Cedric is hilarious and I’m so happy to do this show with him,” says Martin, who will create, write, and share executive producer duties on the program. “We are going to have a lot of fun developing and exploring his role as a minister.”

Hot in Cleveland, starring Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendy Malick and Jane Leeves, launched on TV Land in 2010 and quickly won over viewers, becoming the No. 1 basic cable sitcom of the year. It remains the highest-rated and most-watched program on the network, averaging 3.1 million total viewers per week. The show returns with all-new episodes on June 15.

Cedric The Entertainer is rumored to be joining the upcoming Broadway revival of the 1976 play American Buffalo.

According to the New York Post, the comedian may sign on as one of four men conspiring to steal a coin collection from a wealthy man.
