Damon Wayans is rooting to his roots at ABC. The actor who fronted The Alphabet-endorsed sitcom My Wife and Kids alongside Tisha Campbell for five seasons is returning to the network in a currently untitled project expected to debut later this year.

In the show, Wayans will play an actor who plays America’s favorite dad in a sitcom, but has a dysfunctional family life with his real family, according to Variety.

Red Hats follows the adventures bitter widow who finds new life “after being taken in by a Red Hat Society group,” according to a scoop from The Associated Press. The book — which is dedicated to Damon’s mother Elvira — is described as “Sex and the City for old biddies.”

Damon Wayans, who previously starred in the ABC sitcom My Wife & Kids, is returning to Alphabet Network as the star of its comedy pilot Never Better. Damon will be playing a guy trying to be a good husband and father despite his somewhat misguided attempts.

Damon Wayans has announced the debut of ”WayOutTV,” a collaboration with YouTube that will show sketch comedy videos that he produces. ”WayOutTV” will allow viewers to share, rate and leave comments on the sketches.

”For too long, comedy has been a one-way dialogue, with comedians talking to an audience rather than with an audience,” Damon said in a statement on Thursday. ”My entire goal is to make people laugh and at the same time find a way to be creative and collaborative with people who want to be a part of the process.”
