Did you happen to catch Tuesday night’s installment of America’s Got Talent? Powerhouse vocalist Alice Tan Ridley — who happens to be the mother of Oscar-nominated actress Gabby Sidibe — dazzled the judges and audience with a stirring rendition of Etta James’ “At Last” during her buzzed-about audition on the TV talent show.
She had the cheering audience on their feet by the end of the ballad!
Alice has been putting her spin on the hits for commuters in subway stations around New York City for more than 20 years. Take a look at her performance:
A dose of star power is on its way to ABC’s The View next week. Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe and former world heavyweight champion “Iron” Mike Tyson will appear on gabfest, the network announced on Wednesday. Sidibe — who won an Oscar nomination for her acting debut in the critically-acclaimed drama Precious — will be making her first appearance as a guest co-host next Tuesday, May 4.
On Friday, May 7, Tyson will visit daytime’s favorite cackling hens. It will be the first time that Mike’s shared the stage with Babs Walters since her memorable interview with Tyson and then-wife Robin Givens on ABC’s 20/20 22 years ago.
Precious star Gabourey Sidibe has another prestigious title to add to her resume: Saturday Night Live host! The Oscar-nominated newcomer — a native of Harlem — will hit 30 Rockefeller Plaza to make her debut as host of NBC’s long-running sketch comedy series on April 24, Sidibe’s rep said Thursday.
AcaiSupply.com is reaching out to Oscar nominated Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, noting that obesity is a “major epidemic” in the US and they want to help her fight what they call “this terrible affliction.”
“The only way you can reach your goal of someday winning that Oscar is by being active, fit, and most of all, healthy!” the CEO wrote in a letter to Sidibe.
Shock jock Howard Stern mercilessly ripped into Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe on his Sirius XM Radio Show Monday. Listen to the professional smack talker use Gabby’s appearance to validate his assertion that her career in Hollywood will be shortlived:
Alice Tan Ridley, mother of Academy Award-nominated Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, has been singing her heart out in subway stations around New York City three days a week for 18 years!
A R&B/Gospel fixture in the Big Apple, Ridley worked as a nursery-school teacher and a Department of Education teacher’s aide before relocating her act to Manhattan’s train stations — she also croons in Penn Station and 14th Street/Union Square. Although most people would see her daughter as the one with the more glamorous gig, Alice refuses to accept handouts from her kid.
