So Kim Kardashian is trying her hand at singing and Grammy-nominated soul star Jazmine Sullivan is quitting the business.

Sullivan, 23, sent shockwaves through The R&B World over the holiday weekend as she announced her retirement from the recording industry — effective immediately. You heard right, the protege of hip-hopster Missy Elliott just up and quit the business. At least that’s what she announced via Twitter Sunday night. According to Jazmine, she’s on hiatus until further notice.

“i’m making an official announcement that i am taking a break from music,i’m trying to figure out who i am… w/out a mike, paper or pen. i promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore i wouldn’t do it. and here i am [sic],” she Tweeted.

“i’m not saying i wont ever sing again in my life becuz i dont believe that. but in this moment… rt now… i got some things to figure out.”

The Tweets didn’t stay up too long before they were deleted by someone who we’d bet wasn’t Sullivan.

Her label, J Records, has not commented.

Sullivan has been nominated for nine Grammys since her debut album dropped in the summer of 2008. She’s up for this year’s Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her hit “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles).”

Modern-day soul star Jazmine Sullivan will be awarded the Rising Star Award at the 2010 Billboard Women in Music Event.

The “10 Seconds” singer follows in the footsteps of pop singing sensation Lady Gaga, who was the recipient of the award last year.

“I admire Lady Gaga, so to be honored in a category that she was once in is such a rewarding feeling. When I heard the news, I was so happy. I feel honored to be chosen as this year’s Rising Star,” says Sullivan.

“She brings incredible soul and feeling to her music. We can expect to hear a lot more from this rising star,” Billboard’s Editorial Director, Bill Werde, said of the Philly-bred singer.

This year’s Women of the Year Event — also honoring the Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie — will be held in New York City on Dec. 2.

Hmmp — and you thought “Bust the Windows” was a Christmas mess! Philly’s own Jazmine Sullivan once again proves that she’s not the bitch to cheat on in the newly-released promo for her femme-power track “10 Seconds.”

Would have preferred the big bang at the end, but you get the message either way. Keep those pants up, Fellas. Jazmine’s sophomore album, Love Me Back, is due out Nov. 30!
