Do we smell another Oscar win for Jennifer Hudson? The American Idol-turned-Oscar-winning actress’ return to the big screen will be the portrayal of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela opposite Oscar-nominee Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela in the highly-anticipated biopic Winnie. The film — which some South African protesters argue should feature a South African-born actress in the lead role making its debut at various film festivals next year.
A newly-released promo trailer issued by Equinoxe Films on Tuesday shows Hudson as a young Winnie, her wedding to civil rights worker Nelson Mandela, his 27-year incarceration, and her years as an activist.
Hudson won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Effie White in the 2006 movie-musical Dreamgirls.
Winnie is due in theaters in 2011.

Slimmed-down Oscar/Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson is considering making another big trim — this time to her lengthy locks.
“I am actually thinking about shaving my head, because I feel I’ve got a good structure….My cousin’s a beautician and she’s always saying, ‘You could wear any hairdo.’ So I’m thinking, what if I shave my hair? Not completely off, but low. I think that would be so hot. With my diamonds studs? But with a cut like that, your face has to be made up at all times.”
Hudson, a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, has gone from a size 16 to a svelte size six and is showing off her new figure on September issue of In Style Makeover Magazine.

Oscar/Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson is the latest celeb sporting a milk mustache for the popular Got Milk? nutritional campaign. The slimmed-down superstar and new mom credits the white stuff, combined with a lifestyle of exercise and healthy eating, with helping her lose 56 pounds to play Winnie Mandela in the forthcoming biopic Winnie.
“A lot has changed since I first hit the stage,” the new mom says in the ad. “Now I’m a news mom with an audience of one. And who’s the star of my show? Milk. It’s the elixir that builds strong families. Talk about a powerful performance.”

President & First Lady Obama will host In Performance at The White House: A Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement, a concert celebrating Black History Month in February.
Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, John Mellencamp, Smokey Robinson, Seal, and other have signed up for the show, which will be emceed by Oscar-nominated actor Morgan Freeman and singer/rapper/actress Queen Latifah. The concert will be televised on Feb. 11 at 8:00 PM ET on PBS stations. NPR will also produce a one-hour special from the event to air on its stations throughout the month.
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is not happy with the upcoming film about her troubled life and marriage to Nelson Mandela, AFP reports. Mandela has blasted the makers of the forthcoming feature for not consulting her.
