Kelis has been signed to Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am’s record label.
Kelis, who is currently in the middle of a messy divorce from rapper Nas, released a new song, called “Acapella,” online last week, suggesting plans for a comeback – and now she has announced an exciting new career move.
Kelis has revealed that she has signed to Interscope Records through will.i.am Music Group, and is working on new material with will.i.am, DJ Ammo, and David Guetta.
“2010 is around the corner and I can’t wait to put out new music and spend time with real music fans on tour again,” the “Milkshake” star said in a statement Tuesday.
A newly single Kelis is making her return to the industry – minus the “Milkshake.” On Monday, the quirky vocalist unveiled an electronica/trance-inspired number — produced by UK sensation David Guetta — in a bid to launch her musical comeback. This is official first single and title track from Kelis’ upcoming album, titled “Acapella.”
So much for a reconciliation: Nas has filed a legal bid to prevent his estranged wife Kelis from receiving spousal support payments, TMZ.com reported Monday.
The former hip-hop supercouple has been embroiled in a bitter divorce since April. In July, Nas was ordered to pay the “Milkshake” hitmaker $55,000-a-week in spousal and child support by a New York judge, but now the star is trying to knock down those payments.
Nas is also seeking joint custody of his baby son.
Warring exes Kelis and Nas have reportedly reconciled.
Kelis filed for divorce in April, citing irreconcilable differences amid rumors of verbal abuse and alleged infidelity. The “Milkshake” star was pregnant with the couples first child at the time — a son named Knight, who is now two months old. A judge has ordered Nas to pay his estranged wife nearly $44,000 in monthly support for the near future, The Associated Press reported on Thursday. The move comes one day after R&B singer Kelis gave birth to the divorcing couple’s baby boy, Knight Jones.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger issued the order during a Thursday afternoon hearing.
In April, Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers, filed for divorce from the rapper after four years of marriage. The two have spent the past several months arguing over support payments.
Nas was banned from witnessing the birth of his baby boy because he was too drunk, according to a report from TMZ.com.
The hip-hop star had been performing in New York earlier in the night, where he announced to fans in the crowd that he was drunk on champagne, according to the gossip site. A source says: “Nas is in New York City, anxiously awaiting the arrival of his son. It was his intention to be there for the birth, but unfortunately he has not been allowed to be present.
“While this is clearly heartbreaking to him, Nas continues to offer his support and love to his new baby boy and his mother.”
The birth of their son marks the first child for Kelis, and the second for Nas, who has a 15-year-old daughter, Destiny, from a previous relationship.
TMZ.com is reporting that “Milkshakin’” R&B star Kelis is currently in labor in a New York City hospital. The 29-year-old is about to deliver a brand new baby boy that will be the first son for her estranged husband Nas.
Although through was some confusion at first, Nas’ lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, says the rap star is in New York for the birth of the baby and is now “rushing to the hospital to be with her.”
Nas says he isn’t half the man he isn’t half the man his soon-to-be ex thinks he is — at least financially.
Nas has hit back at estranged wife Kelis demands for financial support, insisting his monthly salary is no where near as high as the singer thinks it is.
The pregnant “Milkshake” hitmaker filed for divorce in April, and recently declared she was desperately seeking money from her ex to help cover her mounting medical bills and other expenses associated with the pending arrival of the couple’s son.
In her court papers, Kelis alleged Nas pocketed $11 million from his 2006 album deal with Def Jam Records, but Nas claims he made just $4 million, stating, “I did not receive even half that amount.”
