Backpack rapper Lupe Fiasco is enlisting a legion of fans to help him convince record executives to speed up the release of his eagerly anticipated album, Laser.

The Chicago hip-hopster completed work on the LP in July, nonetheless, Atlantic has refused to issue Lupe a release date, infuriating the rapper and his most devoted followers. In a movement being called “Fiasco Friday,” Lupe and his fans will stand outside of Atlantic Records Headquarters in New York on Oct. 15 in protest over the Laser debacle.

“It’s one of the sadder parts of being on a major record label. At a certain point it’s out of your hands. About a date for ‘Lasers,’ it’s truly on them. I have no idea what they’re going to do,” Lupe told reporters on Thursday.

Along with the protest, a petition making the rounds on the internet has accrued close to 30,000 signatures from Lupe fans awaiting the album’s release.

Late this year, Chi-Town-based hip-hop star Lupe Fiasco is set to climb infamous Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa, along with singers Justin Timberlake and Kenna, in an effort to bring awareness to the global water crisis.

Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark tour is preparing to hit the road again, this time he’ll be joined by NERD, Rihanna, and Lupe Fiasco.

Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams are taking time out of their solo careers to collaborate on a new hip-hop album to be released later this year. The trio previously united to record a track entitled Us Placers, which featured on West’s 2007 mixtape Can’t Tell Me Nothing.

Lupe says: “It’s definitely happening this year. We call each other by our Child Rebel names – but they are top secret for now.”
