Last month, the artist, whose full name is Mario Barrett, had been charged with second-degree assault for allegedly shoving his mother into a wall at their Baltimore home. At the time, Shawntia Hardaway claimed her son, R&B singer Mario, beat her ass in their shared apartment and she feared for her life, she has recanted her story and, as a result, the second-degree assault charge was dropped.

According to WBAL, Shawntia, who was the “the state’s only witness in the case, said her son never touched her” and “she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she called police.”

Mario’s attorney, Billy Murphy, says it was clear from the beginning that his client never struck his mother and that Mario “remains committed to helping his mother battle her addiction.”

R&B singer Mario was arrested in Baltimore early Friday for allegedly attacking his mother, The Baltimore Sun has learned.

According to officials in Charm City, Shawntia Hardaway called the police to an apartment she shares with her famous son claiming the crooner, 24, was “throwing and damaging property” and shoved her with his hands and forearms.

This apparently wasn’t the first time he attacked her either. Shawntia claims that her son also pushed her around earlier in the week. According to the police report, Mario pushed his moth into a “eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall.”

Mario was arrested on a second degree assault charge, but was released after he posted his $50,000 bail.

Mario’s relationship with his mother hasn’t been blueberries and gumdrops. Shawntia has long struggled with addiction. The “Let Me Love You” singer tried to help his mother kick her addiction to heroin by staging an intervention in the 2007 MTV documentary I Won’t Love you to Death: The Story of Mario and his Mom.

”I was about nine or 10. I remember seeing needles on the dresser, and her with like – I can’t remember if it was a belt – something around her arm and she was just like, sleep on the bed. That was the first time I ever noticed anything weird and after that it was just, I guess, her personality and her mood swings, and that type of thing. And just her not being around for long periods of time,” Mario explained.

”I didn’t want people to see how I was sometimes aggressive with my mother, or sometimes I would have to raise my voice or I would say things that I really didn’t mean. It was really difficult but it got to the point where I felt like the camera was almost like a book. I was telling a story. I was releasing all of these feelings that I had inside for so long.”

R&B crooner Mario reportedly attacked a sound engineer, nearly sending the man flying off-stage, following a technical snafu during his performance at WDKX’s MusicFest in Rochester, NY over the weekend.

Mario became upset after the sound engineer cut the power and lights after the “Let Me Love You singer went over is allotted time slot, spywitnesses say. He was escorted out of the Blue Cross Arena by security.
