Mary J. will sing before the New York Yankees take on the Philadelphia Phillies in the final game of the 2009 series.

The star has also been a vocal supporter of women’s charities, alleging her father often beat her mother before he walked out on the family when she was just four years old.

MJB’s organization recently teamed up with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and several New York-based organizations to fund the opening of the Mary J. Blige Center for Women, based in Yonkers.

The singer was on hand to open the facility on Thursday.

She tells CNN: “All age ranges will be able to come to this center. Women from all walks of life, not just women from poverty-stricken areas. Whatever it is, they’ll be able to come here. There are gonna be psychologists here, doctors here, day care centers here. Anything that you need or they need to be able to better themselves is here for them.”

The Grammy Award winner says she is delighted to use her fame for a good cause: “That’s why I think as celebrities we’re given this job. We’re not given this job to just hold onto this stuff and die with it. We’re given this job to be able to touch someone and say, ‘me, too,’ because they look up to us and look to us for help and guidance and want to be able to relate to us.”

Grammy Award-winning singer Mary J. Blige and Lisa Price, founder of the Carol’s Daughter franchise taught fans how to make a salt scrub on The TODAY Show Monday.

Mary J. Blige has signed on to star alongside Taraji P. Henson in Tyler Perry’s next feature film.

Tyler has cast MJB in I Can Do Bad All by Myself, The Hollywood Reporter says.

The multiplatinum-selling singer will play a performer who manages a nightclub and Oscar-nominated Taraji P. Henson will co-star as her friend.

Tyler’s famous alter ego Madea will make an appearance in the film.

I Can Do Bad All by Myself is scheduled to hit theaters in September.

Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z have been sued for copyright infringement.

Jersey producers Jermaine Jumpp and Michael C. Adams accuse Blige’s renowned producer, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, of swiping the beat from their “On My Grind” for Blige’s “Enough Cryin.’”

The plaintiffs claim they submitted a CD containing their song to Jerkins back in 2001 and were shocked when “Enough Cryin’” surfaced on MJB’s 2005 album The Breakthrough, with Jay-Z receiving a co-writing credit.
