A grief-stricken Janet Jackson appeared at the 2009 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The singing star brought fans a special message from her family in the wake death of her older brother Michael Jackson, who passed away suddenly last Thursday.
“My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was too painful,” a choked-up Janet told the audience.
“To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family and he will forever live in our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself thank you for your love and support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”
The BET Awards honored Michael Jackson –on Sunday night.
Host Jamie Foxx entered to Michael’s 1983 smash“Beat It,” wearing the singer’s trademark red zippered jacket from his “Thriller” years and a single white glove.

Chris Brown, once known for his “young Michael Jackson” comparisons, has been denied from participating in a tonight’s tribute to the late King of Pop at tonight’s BET Awards in Los Angeles, EgyptSaidSo is reporting.
Word is BET producers fear having Brown participate in the tribute to Jackson would upset fans of the network, who are still on edge after the crooner’s assault on singer Rihanna earlier this year.
Earlier this week, Brown — who performed Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” during the 2006 World Music Awards in London — hailed the star as the reason why he wanted to become an entertainer.

Police are on the hunt for Michael Jackson’s private physican.
Los Angeles police spokeswoman Karen Rayner says the LAPD is hoping Dr. Conrad Robert Murray — a cardiologist from Houston, TX, will be able to answer a few questions regarding the pop star’s death in Los Angeles Thursday.
“We have not been able to interview the doctor yet. His car was impounded because it may contain medications or other evidence that may assist the coroner in determining the cause of death,” she told The Associated Press Friday.
