New York theater owner James Nederlander is producing a musical version of Michael Jackson’s 1983 music video “Thriller” that is expected to hit the Nederlander Theatre sometime in the next few years.
In the meantime, producers have announced open auditions to find an unknown to play a young Michael Jackson on the West End stage. The young man will be cast as the lead in the musical Thriller – Live when it opens in London this January.
The King of Pop has sparked questions about his health after he was spotted being pushed in a wheelchair during a family shopping trip in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
“There are constant rumors of a Michael Jackson comeback but it was shocking to see that in reality he is a shadow of his former self……He seemed too weak even to get out of the chair to cross the road himself…He stayed in the store for two hours and wheeled himself around in the chair the whole time…The skin on his hands was peeling, almost like a snake’s. It’s been a quarter century since Michael Jackson released the Top-Selling LP in History, Thriller and Grammy producers are quickly scrambling to prepare a tribute during the 50th Annual Grammy Awards (February 10th) to mark the event. The plan is for will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas to orchestrate the production, with Kanye West, Wyclef Jean and Akon, all featured on the February 12th anniversary re-release of Thriller, joining in.
