As the subjects of a special 56-page-tribute, President-elect Barack Obama and soon-to-be First Lady Michelle Obama grace the cover of the January 2009 issue of Essence Magazine, on newsstands December 12.

According to preliminary Nielsen ratings numbers, Sunday night’s 60 Minutes interview with President-Elect Barack and Michelle Obama drew 24 million viewers, capturing the newsmagazine largest audience since Jan. 17, 1999.

Always a class act, Michelle Obama urged the media to lay off Sarah Palin’s knocked-up teen daughter, Bristol, during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“This shouldn’t be an issue for political discussion,” told the newlywed Ellen during the chat scheduled to air on the sixth Season Premiere of the chat show on Monday.
