Kanye West’s video for “Monster” has been temporarily pulled by MTV following a series of complaints from feminist groups. The video, which also features Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj, features various depictions of dead women and numerous women’s rights activists are not happy.

“MTV has not banned Kanye West’s ‘Monster’ video,” the network said in a statement to MTV News. “We have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast.”

MTV’s moratorium on the video comes after a petition was started by women’s rights activists Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard Reist. The women say the video sends the wrong message to Kanye’s young fans. West is depicted in the video simulating a sexual act with two of the dead women.

“The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women, Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamourise [sic] misogyny and brutalize women,” Reist argues. “Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.”

When Young Money Millionaire dropped his debut album last summer, MTV aired a one-hour documentary chronicling the former Canadian child star’s rise to fame. Now that the clique’s First Lady, hip-hop femcee Nicki Minaj is rolling out a debut disc of her own, the network is plotting the release of a similar docu-soap.

MTV2 will kick off a week of “Sucker Free Summit” themed programming on July 19th at 12pm ET/PT with Sucker Free Countdown, all leading up to the he first ever “Sucker Free Summit” airing Sunday, July 25 @ 12PM ET/PT.

Here are the deets, as revealed in a statement from MTV last week: “During the Summit, Envy will lead a panel of avid hip-hop heads in a gritty debate about the artists nominated in each category. They will discuss the proven track records of established artists, decide which new music maker has the potential for greatness, and talk about the state of the hip-hop industry as a whole. The ultimate decision of the Sucker Free crown winners, however, is determined by a collection of 57 music industry tastemakers. Representing the North, South, East and West, the Summit’s industry insiders have been pulled from backgrounds including print and online, radio and television and club DJs.”

MTV2’s “Sucker Free Summit” is intended to be an event that is “just fans coming together to recognize the best in the industry,” according to the network. The show will not only honor the big names in music, but also the behind-the-scenes people who put it all together.

Featured participants include:

-Fat Joe: Multi platinum selling Latino artist and CEO of Terror Squad Entertainment

Ron Artest: Member of the NBA Championship winning LA Lakers, and rap artist – recently releasing the single “Champion”

Set your DVRs, Barbies: The hottest woman is hip-hop sits down for a candid chat with DJ Envy on MTV2’s Sucker Free Countdown this Sunday, June 20 @ 12PM ET.

“Drake is a gifted artist whose authenticity is resonating with our audience,” says Dave Sirulnick, EVP, MTV Multiplatform, News & Music. “We are thrilled that he allowed MTV the exclusive opportunity to document such an important and personal time in his life.”

Cameras have been trailing Drizzy since he kicked off his Away From Home Tour earlier this year. Better Than Good Enough will grant fans a unique look into the rapper’s relationship with his beloved mother, who the star calls “the most supportive person I’ve ever had in my life.” The piece also features Drake and his October’s Very Own team working feverishly to put the finishing touches on Thank Me Later, the star’s highly anticipated debut album — which dropped in stores on Tuesday.

In a release Tuesday, the network writes; “During the making of, “Drake: Better Than Good Enough,” MTV cameras follow Drake’s every move as he performs his ‘Away From Home’ tour at college campuses across the country while simultaneously recording and releasing Thank Me Later. The film gives the audience and Drake fans alike uncensored access to the rapper’s most intimate moments as he deals with the reality of his rising stardom and the responsibility that comes with it, the difficulty of creating a great live show, and the pressure to deliver one of the year’s most anticipated albums.”

MTV has gone South of the Border for Spring Break! The network has taken over the Playa Suites Hotel in Acapulco Bay, Mexico as its official mtvU Spring Break 2010 destination — featuring performances from raved-about rap star Drake, heartthron Trey Songz, and Ludacris and Nicki Minaj (In a blonde wig and white catsuit…) performing their single, “My Chick Bad.”

Sucker Free is back in effect. MTV2 has tapped New York City DJ/radio personality DJ Envy (Power 105.1) to host a new weekday (Monday-Thursday) revival of its hit music video countdown Sucker Free.

Envy — who also hosts “Hip Hop Nation” on Sirius XM Satellite Radio — has garnered production credits working with artists such as Fabolous, Foxy Brown, and DMX.

“During the week, DJ Envy will present the hit videos taking over the hip-hop game on Sucker Free Daily. From club bangers to tracks that make the speakers jump, “Sucker Free Daily” is the show to see for hot new music taking over the airways. For the latest news in music, movies and entertainment, “Sucker Free News” segments will feature the biggest hip-hop stories hitting the wire. Sucker Free Daily will download music fans on everything from the latest online exclusives to top ringtones to the regional radio hits,” the network revealed in a press statement issued Thursday.

Envy will also host Sucker Free Countdown each Sunday at noon: “DJ Envy will serve up the top 15 videos of the week. He will also sit down with the freshest faces in music, catch up with legends in the industry and get the inside scoop on everything from film to entertainment to sports. In addition, viewers will hear recaps of the top stories that grabbed the headlines throughout the week.”

Sucker Free Daily premieres this Monday, March 15 @ 3 PM on MTV2. Miami’s own DJ Khaled will stop be the first episode to talk about his new album Victory.

R&B star Omarion has been tapped to replace accused child rapist Shane Sparks as a judge on the MTV reality dance competition America’s Next Dance Crew. The move comes after the choreographer was arrested on suspicion of child molestation in October .

The former B2K singer will take a spot on the judging panel — alongside JC Chasez and Lil Mama — when the fifth season of the ratings juggernaut begins later this month.

“I’m so excited to be a judge on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. Dancing and performing is what I do and being a judge on this show will allow me to give creative feedback to the newest and hottest dancers on the rise,” Omarion said in a release Wednesday.

“It was the biggest weight lifted off my chest,” she told MTV News. “If you watch the interview, you see it was a subject that I didn’t talk about for the eight months that I didn’t talk about it, so that was my first real time opening up. I had a lot of tension bottled up. So when I finally spoke about it, it felt really good. More importantly, it felt good that people got something positive out of it, because it’s devastating. It’s not fun to talk about or listen to, but there are a lot of women who are going through it, a lot of teenagers who are scared to talk about it. So I thought it was a good thing that I can be that voice for them and help them get out of that situation.”
