Celebrity photographer David LaChapelle has slapped pop-R&B star Rihanna with a lawsuit claiming that the video for her racy new single “S&M” is heavily derived from his images. According to a suit filed in Los Angeles last week, LaChapelle is suing the “Rude Boy” star, claiming that her video stole concepts for a number of his famous photoshoots, including “composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colors, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting.” The video was directed by Melina Matsoukas, who also helmed the promo for Ri-Ri’s 2009 video “Rude Boy.”

LaChapelle is seeking an unspecified sum in damages.

Rihanna’s racy new single “S&M” has been pulled from daytime airplay on Britain’s flagship pop station — BBC Radio 1 — and the video has been banned in 11 countries after censors shrieked in horror over the song’s suggestive lyrics and blush-inducing video.
