Things have gone from bad to catastrophic for conscious lyricist Nas — or more specifically, his bank account. The rapper’s financial difficulties appear to be spiralling out of control, according to new reports, which claim he owes more than $6 million in unpaid taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

Nas was first slapped with a tax lien from Uncle Sam for nearly $3 million in Oct. 2009, but his money troubles have gotten worse. According to records filed with the New York City Register of Deeds, Nas’ total tax debt now stands at just over $6.46 million.

And the cashflow troubles don’t stop there: He’s also accused of falling behind on a year’s worth of fees ($3,860) on an apartment he owns in his native Queens, New York

Nas’ budget took a huge hit following his divorce from singer Kelis in 2009. He was ordered to make monthly spousal and child support payments of approximately $50,000 before the sum was cut in half by a California court last month.

For someone who pockets more than twenty sacks a month just for being the former Mrs. Nasir Jones, “Milkshake” hitmaker Kelis sure has a tough time keeping up with her bills.

A housekeeper recently employed by Kelis claims the R&B singer owes her $900 in unpaid wages – but she’s having a problem seeking repayment through the courts because she’s in the country illegally. According to TMZ, Kelis’ maid earned $150 a day for her work… and since she only worked one day a week, that means Kelis somehow fell six weeks behind on her payments. Though she’s an illegal alien, sources say the housekeeper is currently exploring her legal options and actively trying to obtain a lawyer who will help her file a claim through the California Labor Commission.

The Harlem native — whose real name is Kelis Rogers — also owes debt to a company who worked production for her commercially-panned 2010 dance album Flesh Tone and a Los Angeles hair stylist, who claims the singer failed to foot the bill for pricey hair extensions she had installed last summer.

Meanwhie, Kelis’ rapper ex-husband Nas has been ordered to pay her over $25,000 a month in child and spousal support.

Nas will soon have a little more spending cash at his disposal. According to TMZ, the “Ether” rapper’s bid to have his spousal and child support payments to ex-wife Kelis reduced by half has been successful.

In Dec. 2009, Nas was ordered to fork over $51,000 for monthly child and spousal payments – a total of over $600,000 a year. The figure was bumped up from a court-mandated amount of $40,000 per month in July 2009 after the rapper and the “Milkshake” hitmaker announced their split after four years of marriage in April of that year.

Nas — who claims the global economic downturn is affecting his ability to earn enough money to fulfill the original obligation — is now required to pay Kelis $20,000 in monthly spousal support and just over $5,000 in child support every month.

For reasons that remain unknown, LA Reid and bosses at the once well-respected firm are blocking the rapper from releasing new material. Last month, the “I Can” hitmaker told his fans on Twitter that he was preparing a sequel to his critically acclaimed 2002 disc The Lost Tapes. A short time later, MTV News claimed the album would hit retailers on Dec. 17, but the project failed to appear on Def Jam’s official schedule for winter releases, prompting rumors of a feud between Nas and his label executives.

And it appears that the rumors are true. On Thursday, an email sent from Nas to Def Jam heads, including Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid, leaked online. In the email, titled “Put My Shit Out!,” the rapper — who owes ex-wife Kelis a hefty monthly sum in spousal support — slams his bosses for failing to “understand” the hip-hop industry and neglecting the needs of his fans.

Legal documents filed at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday, May 21 reveal the “Milkshake” star’s marriage to the rap legend is now officially over. According to legal documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 21, Nas has been ordered to pay over $10,000 a month for child and spousal support.

The hip-hop supercouple married in 2005 and split in April, 2009 after four years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, Kelis filed for divorce just months before she gave birth to the pair’s baby son Knight.

Although the exact reason for their marriage breakdown is not known, Kelis, 29, previously took to her Twitter page to blast married men who are unfaithful, in what was interpreted as a veiled swipe at Nas.

“No seriously I have no patience for any of it but the problem is women usually blame the women. I am here to say that the husband is way more at fault, now of course the woman/women who partake are stupid and pitiful. An honestly I will say its expected from younger girls 23 and under, but after that I do think we as women need to take more responsibility. Men are driven by something different then we are and that is generally stupidity, don’t worry we still love you guys. We just have to be smarter.”

The prolific MC was ordered last month to pay more than $87,000 in back child and spousal support, as well as $10,000 per month to Kelis — the mother of his infant son Knight.

In a new filing, obtained by TMZ.com, Nas’ attorney — Hollywood divorce lawyer to the stars Mark Kaplan — claims that the judge predicated the order on Nas making $152,031 a month, when in fact, he makes “substantially less than that amount.”

Kaplan is asking the judge to reconsider the amount of payments to make sure that it is proportional to Nas’ monthly income.

Gotta love Kelis: Not only does her “Milkshake” bring all the boys to yard, it also sucks all of the money out of their pockets.

Just ask Nas.

On Monday, a Los Angeles judge ordered the rap legend to shell out mayjah moolah in his ongoing divorce drama with his estranged wife.

According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court and obtained by TMZ, Nas mush pay $47,249.42 in back child support for the couple’s infant son Knight and $40,454 in back spousal support to Kelis. The judge also ordered Nas to pay $10,000/month in spousal support until he pays off the $299,015.50 he owes the “Acapella” singer.

The judge also demanded that Nas pay 90% of Kelis’ legal fees in the amount of $155,787.28, and $48,549.83 to cover Kelis’ accounting expenses.

Nas has pleaded not guilty to contempt of court after allegations that he failed to pay child and spousal support to his estranged wife Kelis.

The “Milkshake” hitmaker filed for divorce from Nas last year, just months before giving birth to their son Knight in July. The former couple has since been embroiled in a bitter divorce battle, prompting Kelis to file a contempt motion against the rapper, alleging he’s failed to support his family financially at a court hearing on Friday.

Attorneys for the singing star has accused Nas of owing more than $200,000 in child and spousal support and attorney’s fees.

A judge in Los Angeles thinks Nas can afford to pay a little more in monthly support to his soon-to-be ex-wife Kelis, and the estranged couple’s infant son, Knight.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Cunningham III ordered the legendary lyricist to increase his monthly child and spousal payments to $51,101. Nas has been paying nearly $40,000 a month to support Kelis and young Knight since the baby’s birth in July.
