The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that singing legends Diana Ross and Natalie Cole are two of a number of veteran stars who have been approached about possibly replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth judge on the next season of American Idol, premiering next year.

Natalie Cole has received a new kidney.
A rep for the singer says the 59-year-old music legend is resting comfortably after undergoing a kidney transplant at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday.
Cole received her new kidney from a deceased organ donor through the regional organ procurement agency, One Legacy.
“Ms. Cole’s physicians have advised her to postpone her summer tour dates as she recuperates for the next three to four months,” her rep said.

Natalie Cole’s fans want to give her a kidney. Dozens of viewers wrote in offering to be tested as possible donors when the singing legend appeared as a guest on CNN’s Larry King Live Tuesday night.
Natalie was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in February 2008. Her kidneys failed after treatment and she has since been seeking a donor.
Natalie Cole’s sister has offered to donate her own kidney to help save the ailing music legend’s life.

Music legend Natalie Cole has decided to shave her head because the radiation treatment she is receiving for Hepatitis C is causing her hair to fall out in large clumps.
The 58-year-old singer was diagnosed with the life-threatening liver disease, a likely byproduct of her years as a drug addict, in July.
“I do chemo every week… and we are going to go for it and cut of all my hair….The timing couldn’t be worse because of my (new) record coming out. What you do is rally and you have a great group of people rally around you.”
