Meet Centino Kemp, a 22 years old, single and tattooed aspiring singer, currently best known for his Twitter rants in favor of gay rights and his rumored affair with Bishop Eddie Long — the embattled minister of Atlanta’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

My — it looks like the Bishop was busy. No wonder he forked over $20 million to make this go away.

Need further proof that Black America is going to Hell in a handbasket? Feast your eyes on Exhibit A: Atlanta soul stirrer Creflo Dollar is heating up the blogosphere this Wednesday after video footage of a Sunday morning sermon, during which he feverishly defends accused child sex predator Bishop Eddie Long, went viral.

Long, the pastor of A-Town’s once popular New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, is reportedly paying nearly $25 million to settle claims that he had sexual relationships with four male parishioners when the men were teenagers. Sources familiar with the details of the settlement say Long refused to give a public apology, which ended up costing him more moolah, but note that he has given an apology to the accusers.

But that’s of no concern to Ol’ Creflo.

New Birth has become a virtual Ghost Town since news of Long’s sex suit settlement first made headlines last month. Even Elder Bernice King, the daughter of civil rights pioneer Martin Luther King Jr., left the church in the wake of the scandal; though she cites other reasons for her departure. Rev. Dollar’s letting New Birth castaways know that they are not welcome in his house. During his June 5 address to his congregation, the megachurch televangelist slammed former New Birthers who have abandoned Long “just because he had a wreck.” Wreck? Well, that’s an interesting way of summing up molestation, child abuse, and abuse of power. You fancy huh, Creflo?

“If you from that church, that you know what I’m talkin’ ’bout, and you tryin’ to join here, I don’t want you to join here! That is my friend! That is my brother in The Lord! And if you came from there, you get on back over there where you ‘posed to be and do what you ‘posed to be doin’!”" Dollar thundered to the acclaim of an audience filled with mindless sheep.

Felicia “Snoop” Pearson, who played a drug assassin on the award-winning cable hit The Wire, was arrested by DEA agents in Baltimore on Thursday.

The 30-year-old mush-mouthed actress, who played one of the chief enforcers for Marlo Stanfield’s drug operation on the show, was taken into custody on a Maryland state warrant, The Baltimore Sun has learned. Authorities say the drug dealer-turned-actress is one of 60 people arrested in a drug raid carried out in Charm City early this morning. Authorities declined though to say what charges she faces, but the raids were reportedly targeting heroin and marijuana rings.

Pearson was cast as hardened hired gun “Snoop” on the critically-acclaimed HBO drama in 2002, but she spent her troubled early life working the streets of Baltimore. In her 2007 memoir, Grace After Midnight, Pearson wrote of being born to a drug-addicted mother. At 14, she killed another teenager and served six years in Jessup State Penitentiary for the murder. She was also recently arrested for refusing to testify as a witness in a local murder trial.

She landed the role on The Wire, after meeting actor Michael Williams, who played Omar Little on the show, at a Baltimore club. Impressed by her gritty background, he introduced her to the show’s producers.

The actress also runs a youth drama organization dubbed Moving Mountains, which helps at-risk children use drama and performing arts to get off the street and stay out of trouble.

The MLK holiday — first celebrated as a national holiday on Jan. 20, 1986 — is here and in commemoration check out the last speech from civil rights icon Martin Luther King, delivered the day before he was assasinated in Memphis, Tennessee in April 1968. On Nov. 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan approved the creation of the holiday and signed it into existence. In 2000, MLK Day was celebrated across all 50 states for the first time since its inception 14 years before!

Is Duncan Hines baking Blackface cupcakes? That’s what some critics say.

The confections brand has pulled a controversial ad promoting its “hip-hop” cupcake frosting after complaints it played on racist stereotypes from the days of Blackface and minstrel shows.

The commercial for “Amazing Glazes,” with singing and dancing chocolate-frosted cupcakes, was released on YouTube with the title “Hip Hop Cupcakes” last week. The cupcakes had exaggerated lips and eyes and hummed a melody.

The commercial drew more than 19,000 views on YouTube before being pulled.

“I wanted to create an entertaining and engaging way to show bakers that this glaze makes everything you top taste better and more exciting,” says Josh Binder, who directed the video and came up with the concept.

“Clearly there are no minorities in the boardroom where they work on advertising at Duncan Hines,” wrote on Racialicious.com commentor.

Bloggers were outraged that no one at Duncan Hines realized it might be offensive. A pundit for TheSource.com was one of the first to put the company on the chopping block:

“The racial component can’t be overlooked,” the blogger writes. “It doesn’t matter that they’re cupcakes; the fact that they start rapping isn’t too far a stretch from making them in blackface. If the icing was in different flavors, or the lips weren’t so big and pink maybe we could give the ad a pass, but as it stands it’s a pretty poorly constructed and potentially racist ad. I’m the last person to be overly sensitive to media images, but the frothy mix of chocolate skinned cupcakes, bad hip-hop and a long media history of depicting stereotypical black people to sell food give me reason to question the intent if not the effect of this ad.”

Talk about insane courtroom spectacles! Back in the late ’80s, D’Atra (or Deitra) Hicks was one of the most talented young soul singers Harlem had ever seen. But after a few flopped albums, the crooner’s career went the way of most that lack the marketability and promotion to compete in the music industry.

Fast forward 22 years: These days, D’Atra is best known for belting out ballads and gospel-flavored singles for African-American-themed plays on The Chitlin Circut. She’s perhaps best known for her portrayal of “Jackie” in Tyler Perry’s hit stageplay Madea’s Family Reunion.

Oh — and she’s divorcing her husband. Enter Loren Harper, a self-assessed alcoholic, sex addict, and compulsive liar who first met D’Atra after an encounter online. Charming. Loren — who is also a gospel singer and actor — says his wife punches him in the face constantly — a claim D’Atra doesn’t exactly deny — so he’s suing for $1,760 to pay for several therapy sessions. Lordy…

Deitra, who admits she has anger management issues, breaks out into songs and hymns in the middle of Loren’s testimony because that’s the only thing that keeps her from going upside his head! Seriously, you guys. Why didn’t y’all send us this link when it first aired earlier in the month?!

Things have gone from bad to worse for Bishop Eddie Long. Long, one of the nation’s leading Black preachers, found himself embroiled in a sexual harassment lawsuit leveled by former parishoners — who claim they were manipulated into sex with Long as teenagers.

On Friday, a fourth young male member of Bishop Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Megachurch is suing the clergyman, claiming Long coerced him into a sexual relationship five years ago.

The lawsuit was filed by Spencer LeGrande, a member of New Birth Charlotte. New Birth Charlotte is a satellite church run by Long in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to the suit, Long once told LeGrande: “I will be your dad” and invited the then 17-year-old to journey to Kenya with him in July 2005. LeGrande said that Long gave him a sleeping pill on that trip and that the two then engaged in sexual acts.

It was the beginning of what would be a lengthy union between The Bishop and LeGrande, who claims Long bought him a Dodge Intrepid and financed his college education.

Three other young men, Maurice Robinson, Anthony Flagg, and Jamal Parris, filed lawsuits earlier this week accusing Long of using his power as a preacher to sexually seduce them.
