Robin Thicke is a new dad!

The “Sex Therapy” crooner and his actress wife Paula Patton — former high school sweethearts — welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Julian, on Tuesday evening, according to Robin’s tourmate, singer Alicia Keys. Robin is an opening act on Alicia’s “Freedom” tour, along with Canadian songbird Melanie Fiona, and A. Keys revealed news of Julian’s arrival to Robin’s fans on stage at last night’s show, according to The Los Angeles Times.

A rep for Thicke tells PEOPLE.com: “Mother, father and son are all doing well.”

Does the term “biracial” offend you? Paula Patton thinks it should. The Precious star — who is the daughter of a White teacher and an African-American attorney — is creating a stir with some remarks on race she made during an interview in the March issue of Women’s Health Magazine.

“I find [the term biracial] offensive. It’s a way for people to separate themselves from African-Americans….a way of saying ‘I’m better than that,’” says Paula, who is expecting her first son with crooner hubby Robin Thicke this spring. “I’m black because that’s the way the world sees me. People aren’t calling Barack Obama biracial. Most people think there’s a black president….People judged me because I was light-skinned. [They'd assume] I didn’t want to be part of the black race,” she says.

I think biracial people are just trying to be inclusive of all that they are, rather than simply acknowledging their Blackness while omitting the other parts of their heritage. Do you agree with Paula?

“Teaching him how to respect a woman. Teaching him music. Getting to play him Biggie Smalls at some age, we’ll experience that together,” the 32-year-old crooner tells Essence.com of some of the life lessons he hopes to impart to his son. “That’s the beauty of having a child.”

Robin does have some fears about being a first-time parent.

“I’m afraid of not being patient enough, but most of the time that’s when I’m scared or worried about the future,” Thicke says. “I want to work on that. But my biggest fear is being able to be there, because I don’t know if kids ever think their parents were there enough.”

The couple, high school sweethearts who married in 2005, are due in May.

Paula refused to attend her high school prom with the man who was to become her husband because he is White. She began dating soul singer Robin Thicke since they were both teenagers and she has only recently told him why they missed out on prom night.

“I didn’t want people to know (we were dating). I didn’t want people to call me a sellout or an Oreo, because I’d gotten that my whole life and it wasn’t the truth,” Paula recalls. “I actually just admitted this to Robin not too long ago.”

Robin tells Giant the news came as a no surprise: “She had actually told a couple of people I was black. Then prom night comes, we’d been together a year and a half, and she just lies and says she didn’t want to go instead of saying she didn’t want to take me.”

Paula and Robin married 2005 and are expecting their first child.

The Precious star and the platinum-selling blue-eyed soul crooner began dating in high school and wed in 2005.
