It appears years of dickhounding has finally paid off for the desperately-single and eternally-dimwitted Sherri Shepherd!

The hostess of ABC’s The View got engaged to boyfriend of one year Lamar Sally, a portly television writer with a startling resemblance to a 6’10″ Uncle Ben.

After getting “special permission” from Sherri’s five-year-old son, Jeffrey (the product of the actress’ ill-fated marriage to comedian Jeff Tarpley), Lamar popped the question as the couple returned to his Los Angeles home following a trip to San Diego on Dec. 26.

When Sherri, 43, walked in, she was stunned to find the house decorated in festive lights, her dog wearing a Santa beard and hat, and an engagement ring inside a box that was sitting in a bowl of M+M’s. Then Lamar, 40, dropped to one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.

The happy couple plan to wed in Chicago next August.

Sherri was introduced to Lamar by the fiance of her comedienne pal Niecy Nash. Nash is set to wed this spring.

Jeff writes: “I’ve owned up to the mistakes I’ve made and I never claimed to be perfect. All I ask is that that she no longer dwell on the past; and instead, let’s move on with our lives while providing our son the best possible care….”

Charming, but why isn’t he this offended when she’s signing those hefty alimony checks.

“I feel really great,” she said. “I just wanted to show people that you don’t have to do anything crazy. You just have to make some choices and exercise and the weight will drop off. I hope some folks were inspired.”

The View’s ditzy Sherri Shepherd will make a special appearance on MyNetworkTV’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown this Friday, May 1st.

Sherri climbs into the ring as the United States Championship goes on the line.
