In this week’s HipHop Crunch Show, Pascalle discusses a whole bunch of hiphop news including the Neo / R. Kelly drama, Snoop’s latest hit Sensual Seduction, DOE’s comments about Timbaland’s baby and the latest Scott Storch diss.
Hey everybody welcome to The Hip Hop Crunch Show, I’m Pascalle. Welcome to this week’s edition of the show. You know you can find me here every Friday here at hiphip.popcrunch.com and keep checking us out every day for the written blog.
So, a lot to cover for this week of October 8th 2007, I’m just going to get right to it and cover as much as I can in the short amount of time that I have. The biggest story this week was the VH-1 Hip Hop Honors. This is the show where every year VH-1 selects a handful of artists, or things from the HipHop culture to celebrate and honor. Some of this year’s honorees were A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini, Snoop Dogg, and Missy Elliott. So what was the biggest outcome of the show–which was actually a pretty good show–if you missed it, good luck trying to find it online because Viacom is shutting those things down on YouTube and all over those video websites. It leads me right into the
BOO! Of The Week:
I’m sure you’ve read about it everywhere, what they’re calling, “Lupe Fiasco-gate”. So, lemme just break it down for you and just summarize for you as best as I can: so Pharrell, Common, Busta Rhymes and Lupe Fiasco were performing Electric Relaxation by A Tribe (Called Quest) they were doing the tribute performance, and Lupe flubbed a word or two. And it wasn’t even that serious. Go ahead, check out the clip:
That was it… That was what this whole big to-do was about. So it did become a whole big thing–every single Hip Hop blog I know or read talked about this incident. What made it so bad wasn’t the fact that he flubbed the line (artists do that–it happens on stage) but what the problem is, or where my ‘Boooo!’ comes in is the fact that people were dissing him online; he decides eff a publicist, eff an official statement–he just went on this whole long rant about how he didn’t listen to ATCQ growing up…that the (VH-1 HHH ‘07) performance was offered to him…he rejected it at first…but it was Q-Tip and the rest of the crew that was ‘adamant’, that was the word he used, they were ’adamant’ that he perform. He said, “…I was listening to 8-Ball and MJG and N.W.A.”, etc, etc…blah blah blah, blah blah… My thing is, there’s a lot of your fans that read stuff like that. You don’t go off on a rampage on FANS, on the people who have the potential to buy your music. So
anyway…BOOOOO!
All in all, I thought the show was pretty good. I thought the Missy tribute was pretty good. And, of course, I loved the Tribe Called Quest–What up QUEENS!!!!–I loved that tribute, it really brought me back. I’m a huge fan of ATCQ. And for those of y’all who’ve never seen Busta (Rhymes) perform (live)… the energy this guy has is unbelievable! This guy can always get a crowd, a stadium, ten, twenty-thousand people up on their feet. And
that’s exactly what happened he did at the Hip Hop Honors.
I’m talking about I watched and got goosebumps when he came out on stage. I had a link (of Busta’s performance @ the HHH) for y’all, thanks to Straight Outta NYC.com, because she had gotten some exclusive footage of the show…but Viacom is shutting things DOWN on YouTube so, unfortunately, I don’t have that clip anymore (but do a search, y’all will find it…)
New Music
Also this week, big week for Jay-Z. He had a select few media to take a listen to his new album, American Gangster. This week he had the new video for “Blue Magic” (ft. Pharrell). The video actually premiered on BET
this week and I have the clip for y’all if you wanna check that out:
Another track that got leaked this week is from Lil’ Wayne featuring, get this y’all–Babyface. Yeah, yeah, yeah…that Babyface. The song is called, “Comfortable”, and it’s actually a pretty chill song.
One of my faaaaavorite MC’s in the game, Jadakiss, he officially signed his deal this week with DefJam. I’m excited about this. I can’t wait for Jadakiss to drop another studio album. DJ Envy and DJ Clue are having his DefJam signing party is tonight (Friday, Oct 13th) in NYC. Hopefully there’ll be some pictures or some juice that I can share with y’all this week.
So that’s gonna do it for me…Thanks for joining me, as usual. Go ahead and check out the links to the new music and the videos, and the stories that I talked about here on the show. Don’t forget every Friday you can find me here at hiphop.popcrunch.com. This weekend should be real interesting, I should have a lot of good things for y’all next week because this weekend in Atlanta is the BET Hip Hop Awards.
Alright y’all thank for joining, and I’ll see y’all next week…Peace!

Along with each episode, we’ll also include an overview of the show script along with links so you can find out more info:
We’re still gonna to have the daily blog, but once a week we’re gonna have a video posting where I’ll be talking about some of the biggest news in Hip Hop.
Along with every video posting there will be a transcript and story source links.
So let’s get to it! Biggest story from Last week: Jay-Z vs. LL Cool J possible beef?
Depends on who you ask; It it’s up to LL cool J has been saying forever that’s he’s had a problem with how Jay-Z has been running Def Jam as president and was vocal about it on the 50 Cent’s underground song, “Queens”. If you take a listen to the lyrics on LL’s verse you’ll see exactly what he’s been saying all along: he’s been at Def Jam forever but ever since Jay-Z’s come in, LL, I guess is feeling like he hasn’t had the proper shine or proper promotion. LL’s even said himself, “The one thing Jay-Z’s good at promoting Jay-Z.” Jay-Z hasn’t hasn’t said anything really–up until very recently…
50 Cent has a remix to his “I Get Money” song as the “I Get Money Forbes 1,2,3 remix”, and Jay-Z says something to the effect of “I’m already the G.O.A.T., I’m about to be a billy.” Now, anyone who know’s LL’s music knows that LL has always been the self-proclaimed G.O.A.T. which is an acronym for the “Greatest Of All Time”. So is Jay-Z going after him? Is he not? Well here’s what LL had to say about that. Check out this video clip:
So…and already the buzz on-line is that LL already has a song using Jay-Z’s “Takeover” beat where he’s going after Jay-Z, and going after him hard. That’s a rumor, that was found on AllHipHop.com
So we’re gonna see if there’s ever a song that comes out and see if those rumors are true. Recently though, as far as last weekend, Jay-Z did call in Angie Martinez’s show at New York’s Hot 97 saying, nah, he wasn’t focusing that line at LL, but…C’mon Jay…
Jay-Z insists his verse on 50’s “I Get Money” (Forbes 1, 2, 3 remix) is not directed towards LL http://www.missinfo.tv/?p=297
Along the lines of Jay-Z, we know that there’s a movie coming out called ‘American Gangster’ starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. And that’s coming out, I believe, this December. Jay-Z’s coming out with his new studio album. It’s not the soundtrack to the movie American Gangster, but it’s a concept album inspired by this movie. So, is Jay-Z retired? Is he not? Who knows, but he’s coming out with another album. He already has a single out called, ‘Blue Magic’. If you haven’t heard it, I’ll have a link up for you so you can take a listen. Put your comments let me know what you think about the song.
In more new music, let’s go to Jay-Z’s wifey, let’s talk about Beyonce, and how she has a remix with Justin Timberlake on his single, ‘Until the End of Time’. Again, I’ll have a link up, let me know what you think of the song.
In other news, we have Miss Karrine “Don’t Call Me Superhead” Steffans, who was on Jamie Foxx’s Sirius satellite radio show. His radio is called “Foxxhole”, and it’s an hour long clip where him and his crew are at first clowning, clowning, clowning Superhead and just having jokes going back and forth. There’s some crazy allegations and some alleged things that went down. As far as Jamie Foxx, he made it it very clear to let everybody know he had nothing to do with Karrine, and the fact that he did not sleep with her. At first when he met her, he thought she was very pretty but didn’t know she was *that* Karrine. Take a listen, I’ll have the clip posted but I’m warning you now: it’s really long, unless you have an hour to spare, maybe on your lunch break at work or something, take a listen to it. (Warning: Explicit language)
So, that’s about it y’all, I’m keepin’ it real brief. It was kind of a slow week in Hip-Hop this week, but it’s all good. You know I’m gonna be keeping an eye out on things and have some more good stories for y’all next week. Let me know what you think about the show. Let me know also if you have other features you guys want to see besides New Music and besides Gossip and things of that nature. Don’t forget you can also check out a transcript of this show on this page. You can click on the links, the video and things I went over in the video.
That’s it for now. And I’ll see y’all next week, thanks for checking us out. Peace.
