Will the real Queen please stand up? Music legends Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner are at one another’s throats over who has the right to call themselves a “Queen.”

Last week, Tina, who is currently on tour, was asked to comment about the moment when Beyoncé called her “The Queen” at the 2008 Grammys last February, and the backlash Aretha let out in response.

“She’s the queen of soul, and I’m the queen of rock ‘n’ roll…Her ego must be so big to think she was the only one.” Tina said of Aretha. “That’s how queens are!”

And Ms. Aretha wasn’t taking that lying down:

Aretha says Tina was “clearly was talking about herself” in terms of ego.

“I never figured her to resort to tacky press just to sell a few tickets,” says Franklin, who adds she has never met Turner. “I really had put her in a different class — higher than that.”

“No one has been more gracious … to their peers than I have, and I am confident and secure enough to do so, unlike some others..”

Tina Turner has added several dates to the North American leg of her upcoming tour.

Tina Turner will return to the stage for the first time eight years in a live tour to kick off later this year, Oprah on May 8th.

Beyonce daddy has some fightin’ words for The Queen of Soul. Legendary songstress Aretha Franklin issued an egotistical press release on Tuesday blasting Beyonce and Grammy Awards writers after Bey referred to another singing legend, Tina Turner, as “The Queen” during Sunday night’s 50th Annual Grammy Awards. Matthew Knowles wants to know what all the fuss is about, he says:

“As a manager I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce. Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a ‘queen. Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?”

Aretha Franklin, the plus-sized powerhouse known as the “Queen of Soul,” is bitter after Beyonce introduced Tina Turner “As the Queen” just before the start of their duet at the 2008 Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

An offended Aretha Franklin says in a statement: “I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway.”

Miss Aretha has been on an ego-trip all week, according to recent gossip. The icon reportedly refused to perform with Alicia Keys or Mary J. Blige at the MusiCares event in Los Angeles last week.
