She made a huge splash on the music scene with the release of her infectious debut single “Whip My Hair. Now at the ripe old age of 10, Willow Smith is back for seconds as she croons on her aptly-titled follow-up single, “21st Century Girl.”

Willow delivers another high-energy dance song that will have tween girls and adult women elbowing for room on the dance floor.

“Twenty-first century girl/I do what I like,” the pint-sized stylista, a Sony/Roc Nation signee, sings. “Twenty-first century girl/I’m taking you for a ride.”

For those not in-the-know, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, hip-hop impressario Jay-Z, and Will’s Overbrook Productions have reached an agreement to feature Will and Jada’s stylista daughter, “Whip My Hair” singer Willow Smith, in movie musical remake of Carol Burnett’s 1981 box office hit Annie. (Epic Fail, mind you…)

But not everyone is ecstatic over the recent Hollywood exposure of Jada and Will’s spawns, including son Jaden, who starred in a remake of The Karate Kid just last summer. Bestselling author Terry McMillan has incited the wrath of Smith fanatics on Twitter after posting a series of disparaging remarks about the showbusiness fam on her feed this week.

“Hey people I am so excited for my next single!! Are you?” 10-year-old Willow wrote on Facebook over the weekend. “It’s a dance record. I know you love to dance, don’t cha’…”

Before signing off, Willow added: “I wanted to share a sneak peak of my next single with my Facebook friends…hope you like it.”

A video shoot for “21st Century Girl” is already underway in a private location in Southern California. The single will featured on Willow’s as-of-yet-untitled debut album due out on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label later this year!

Willow Smith is being courted to take center stage in a remake of the classic movie musical Annie, Variety has learned.

Willow’s famous dad, actor Will Smith, is exploring the idea of remaking a new version of the 1982 film – about a young girl who sings her way through life in an orphanage – with Sony following the success of son Jaden’s summer remake of The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan. That film grossed more than $350 million worldwide.

Will would produce the Annie reboot through his Overbrook Production Company. Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z – who signed Willow to his Roc Nation label late last year – has asked to collaborate on music for the film, the trade paper adds. As hardcore hip-hop heads may recall, Jay-Z created a hip-hop version of “Hard Knock Life,” one of the best-known songs featured in the stage show, for his 1998 Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life LP.

Willow has appeared alongside her father in the 2007 film I Am Legend and also voiced the character of Baby Gloria in animated movie Madagascar 2.

Though Little Orphan Annie, the comic strip that started it all, was discontinued after more than 70 years last summer, Annie is set for a revial on Broadway next year. The show won a Best Musical Tony Award back in 1977.

They were launched straight into the limelight. A lot of their friends think it is way too much too soon.”
