Kimora Lee Simmons and her Oscar-nominated boyfriend Djimon Hounsou were married in a ceremony in the actor’s native Benin, Africa last summer.

Despite their best efforts, the couple couldn’t make the union official in the U.S. because Kimora was still technically married to mogul Russell Simmons. Their divorce was finalized on Jan. 28.

Kimora’s faux African wedding was apparently as wild as her Baby Phat fashion shows, the NY Daily News wrote on Monday.

“Both Kimora and Djimon wore traditional dashikis. She went whole hog with the African theme − there were African drums, a traditional ceremony with dancers . . . they even had a hut!”

Aoki and Ming, the Baby Phat designer’s daughters with Simmons, were on-hand for the ceremony.

“Aoki slept through the entire ceremony, and Ming cried. They were pretty confused as to what was going on,” says the Daily News source.

Djimon and Kimora are expecting their first child together later this year.
