Dr. Donda West, mother of rapper/producer Kanye West, has passed away at fifty-eight.
Dr. West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said a family spokesman:
“The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief,” the spokesman said
The cause of death has not been confirmed, however unconfirmed reports claim the college professor died following complications of a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. Dr. West’s publicist, Patricia Green, confirms her death was the direct result of “complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure.”
Donda West worked in higher education for thirty-one years, before leaving academia in 2004 to help manage her son’s career, according to a biography on the Kanye West Foundation’s Web site.
She began working at Chicago State University in 1980 and eventually chaired the school’s English department, according to the site. She started her teaching career in the early 1970s as an instructor at Brown College in Atlanta.
Earlier this year, Dr. West released a book entitled Raising Kanye, in which she her superstar son’s childhood.

I was shocked when I read it today..This is sooooo sad..She was a strong black woman who loved god..She raised her son and I’m sure was very proud of him he’s sad that she won’t get to see her grandchildren..She’s in Peace now..My prayers go out to the West family.

Sorry for typo …I meant ITS sad she won’t get to see her grandchildren. You could see that Kanye and his mom were very close not just mother and son but friends too.

This is truly a tragedy,
I adore Kanye West, and his music,and am very saddened by this occurance. My prayers and condolences go out to him and his family.Who knows this incident may help a woman decide a little easier if she wants to alter her body the natural way,instead of surgery.

Kanye I feel your pain. In Ghana we would say ”Demirfa due”. Your mother has done well raising you up to this satge in your life do not forget what she has taught you and things she always used to say concerning life becasue now she will not be there to repeat these things.
In time past you may have gotten away with a lot probably against her will and thereby showing her that you were the wiser. However likewise in a lot of situations more than you could tell she has taken you through the straight and narrow.
This is to all the single mums and dads who are out there, may they never cease in the support of their children.
