Legendary hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre will be taking his producing talents to the big screen.

“This is a natural switch for me, since I’ve directed a lot of music videos. And I eventually want to get into directing,” the former “Fuck the Police” rapper says of his new deal with New Line Cinema.

The entertainment powerhouse has enlisted the Doc to produce a series of “dark comedies.” New Line Cinema Pres Toby Emmerich first approached Dre with the prospect of potentially becoming a film maker last year:

“His records have always been very narrative in nature, and you can tell from his songs that he understands how to tell a story. We’re excited to work with him as he branches out into the film world.”

“Everything Dre has worked on becomes a hit, and one of the reasons for that is he never put his name on anything he doesn’t really believe in,” Toby explained.
