Fans Walk Out Of Lauryn Hill Concert In Oakland

Fans walked out of a recent Lauryn Hill concert at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California last week. The heavily made up Grammy Award winner is reported to have wandered around the stage chanting and even fell down on-stage after arriving two hours and fifteen minutes late.

According to one fan:

“Man, I went and seen Lauryn Hill last night. Broad is crazy. She had that make-up on like a bag lady, like cake face with reds and blues. She wasn’t even performing songs, she was chanting and walking around. Then the broad fell and kicked her feet up for like a minute. Never seen nothing like it. Halfway thru, the crowd started booing, then got up and started a revolt for refunds…..”

How bad was this concert? Well, calling it a fiasco would be an insult to fiascos everywhere. It was so bad that it sent 75 to 100 fans into the lobby only four songs into the set, all of them grumbling loudly and demanding refunds. Those were the smart ones – the rest of us remained in our seats and watched what amounted to a two-hour train wreck….

Her hair in an unkempt rust-colored Afro, Hill wore a green-and-yellow plaid jacket that appeared to be made of wool and an ankle-length black skirt, looking not unlike a bag lady one might encounter at a taco truck on International Boulevard. She held a microphone in her right hand and a black handkerchief in her left, frequently wiping sweat from her face as she paced the stage, says the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 32-year-old vocalist then turned to 1998’s landmark “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” – a work that, amazingly, still stands as her most recent studio effort – for a garbled version of “Lost Ones.” Her voice was terrible, so harsh, strained and unlike what one hears on the masterful “Miseducation” CD. She also sounded like she’s out of shape, huffing and puffing like a weekend warrior after only a few songs, the article continues.

Whoever wrote this is a liar and a propagandist. What does this person profit from trying to thwart Ms. Hill’s return to music?

    What are THEY afraid of?

Ever since Ms. Hill spoke her beliefs or stereotype of white people, which I don’t know to be real, but ever since people have tried to call her crazy this and crazy that. Since when did real become crazy.

Ms. Spears is crazy. Crazy is endangering your children with drug and alcohol abuse.

Working on Colored People’s Time or CPT is inconsiderate at best, but definately not crazy.

Musicians are artists and artists are undefinable and oftern perculiar, that is their claim to fame, their right, their genius, that’s how we tape into the creative flow that is pure. It is not craziness, it just is and has always been.

We share ourselves until it almost kills us and then we go away and come back and give you what GOD gives us, that you won’t touch because of fear of being devoured.

SHE IS POWERFUL. SHE HAS HER POWER IN HER CONTROL.

And that scares the HELL out of every man and person.

And I am sorry if I sound prejudice or sexist, but it scares the SHIT out of BLACK AND WHITE MEN.

That’s why Hilary can’t win, but Obama can. SHE HASN’T CLAIMED HER POWER. SHE voted for a WAR she didn’t BELIEVE in and would be the MAN OBAMA is or claim the POWER to Say NO, HELL NO.

I pray 2008 to be the year of Obama and Ms. Hill.

Let us live with hope and truth with music and power.

I am a black male and on the contrary I do believe Ms. Hill is a very honest and truthful artist. I believe she (Lauryn Hill) is very creative and God does speek loud to the creative for they are the people who live in his image. I love lauryn hill and her creativity and I feel people (male and Female) are just not ready to deal in truth, there’s a time and a place for everything and Ms. Hill will have her day… Peace to my beautiful black sister, we as a culture are very resililiant. Like a diamond after a good polish she will shine again.
