The CW has decided to cancel long-running sitcom Girlfriends, according to the Rumor Mill. The network has reportedly opted to cancel the show immediately instead of bringing it back for a ninth season. According to reports, Monday night’s one-hour block of new Girlfriends episodes served as the show’s last airing.

The CW needs to let Girlfriends finish their last episodes for the eighth season at least. From what I’ve read on Girlfriends is not the lowest rated sitcom on the network so why is it being cancelled? The show has been great and yes it may have lacked a little spark when Toni left but damn the show was still great. The episode that Golden Brooks wrote was real. People don’t like to listen to stuff that’s real all they want is for things to be all the time funny. Golden was dealing with a miscarriage and started taking pills to make her feel better, Joan has her fiancee fighting in the war and its breaking her down, Lynn is struggling in the music industry because she isn’t “black enough” and Monica is pregnant, Jabari is even learning to drive and wanted to show off and wrecks William’s car. All those things are happening to people in everyday life. The show is probably the best show in the history of television and its not right that it has to be cancelled. I really hope the CW looks at what they are doing. They already cancelled One on One, Eve, Cuts, Half & Half, Love Inc, by not even giving them a chance on the new network. Then they cancelled All of Us and now Girlfriends. Only two African American shows remain on the network. We had eight when it was UPN and now two. I will point out again that Girlfriends is not the lowest rated sitcom on the network so again I ask Why is it being cancelled?
