Janet Jackson says she parted ways with Def Jam executives because they wanted her to be the new Sade.

“There were some people who didn’t like the direction I took with this album (Discipline),” Janet tells Sister 2 Sister Magazine. “They wanted me to sound more like Sade, but I’m not ready for that just yet. I love doing dance songs and I think my fans expect that of me.”

Perhaps they were simply asking for some maturity as an artist Janet. I mean, dont get me wrong I am always the dedicated fan…nonetheless artist are supposed to mature and evolve. Since the Janet album, you have given us the same theme and album structure (with the exception of Velvet Rope). I thnk the fans might have welcomed an ‘evolution.’ Perhaps, not necessarily a Sade like album though. But something neo soulish would definitely tickle my fancy. And I know you can do that Janet. You gave us a littel taste of that style with the song ‘Got til its Gon.’ A fantastic song!…that I think truely represented your growth as an artist…from the imagery to the lyrics. We need more of that!
