Janet Jackson Leaves Island Def Jam

Janet Jackson has severed ties with Island Records after just fourteen months with the label. The move was prompted by Janet’s frustration of lackluster sales for her most recent album.
“At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album ‘Control’, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label,” a rep for the R&B star said in a statement Monday.
