Get ready for a full 8 minutes of Janet! Janet Jackson will kick off the 2009 American Music Awards with a special opening medley next Sunday night. “

We’re thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year’s show,” American Music Awards producer Larry Klein said in a statement Thursday. “She is an incredibly dynamic performer and I think the audience will be excited to see what she has in store.”

This will mark the fourth time Janet — who will release a new Greatest Hits Compilation later this month — has performed on the American Music Awards, having previously performed “Control” in 1987, “Escapade” in 1990, and “Together Again” in 1998.

The 2009 American Music Awards airs Sunday, Nov. 22 @ 8PM on ABC.
