Jennifer Lopez has parted ways with her longtime label home of Epic Records, an entity of Sony Music Group. Nikke Finke of DeadlineHollywood.com broke the news on Monday, but there are few stories about what went down.

Some insiders say Lopez’s contract was up and since she fulfilled her obligation with her last two singles, it wasn’t renewed. A mutual decision was made not to go ahead with an album. Others claim Lopez was dropped by Sony due of low record sales.

The Bronx-born singer/actress Lopez’s manager, Benny Medina, confirmed the split in the following statement:
“Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction her career as an actress and recording artist.”

Jennifer’s upcoming seventh studio album, LOVE, which had been scheduled to be released in April, is currently on the shelf. A greatest hits compilation is planned to be released by Sony this fall.

Jennifer had been with Sony since the release of her Grammy-nominated debut album, On The 6, in 1999. She has sold over 48 million albums worldwide.
