Plaxico Burress Pleads Guilty To Felony Weapons Charges; Two Years In Prison
Plaxico Burress, the former New York Giants receiver who was a hero in last year’s Super Bowl, pleaded guilty on a felony weapons charge on Thursday and was sentenced to two years in prison.
The charges stem from a Manhattan nightclub incident last November in which Burress shot himself in the thigh with a gun. His permit to carry the weapon had expired.
Burress pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal weapons possession and agreed to the two-year sentence with two years of supervision upon release.
In 2008, The New York Giants won the Super Bowl over New England when Burress caught the winning touchdown toss in the closing seconds. He was released from his contract in April.
