Musical guitar Prince has stirred up a small controversy with his soggy-wet halftime performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl XLI.

The critically-acclaimed performance featured a guitar solo of the 1984 hit “Purple Rain.” During the number, Prince’s shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. The silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar, which is in the shape of P’s signature symbol, allegedly had phallic connotations.

Daily News television critic David Bianculli called the guitar silhouette “a rude-looking shadow show” that “looked embarrassingly rude, crude and unfortunately placed.”

The executives over at CBS disagree. The network claims to have received “very few” complaints about Prince’s shadowy performance. And the NFL has reportedly received no complaints.

“We respect other opinions, but it takes quite a leap of the imagination to make a controversy of his performance,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said of the incident. “It’s a guitar.”
