The Donda West Bill, which was introduced in September, has officially become a law in the State of California.

The law, inspired by the late mother of rapper Kanye West, makes health checks and a written clearance mandatory before being allowed to undergo plastic surgery in the state of California.

In November 2007, Dr. Donda West passed away at the age of 58 following cosmetic surgery. The retired professor underwent breast augmentation and a tummy tuck without a medical clearance. A preexisting coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors following surgery proved fatal.

“Sometimes patients may think they are well enough for cosmetic surgery, but in reality are not,” says Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter, who lobbied the legislation into law. “This bill will potentially save lives.”.

This bill should have existed a long time ago. And, considering that plastic surgery has been the safest it has been for years on end.

Gone were the days when women used padded bras to make their breasts look fuller and bigger. Today, breast augmentation using saline or silicon gel implants makes it virtually possible for any woman to choose what size of breast she wants.
