Thirty-three students have been killed and another twenty-eight injured in a mass shooting on the campus of Virginia Tech University in rural Blacksburg, Virginia. The still unidentified gunman, an Asian-American male, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An unidentified second male was also arrested-no word on what role he had in the massacre. The shooting is being called the deadliest mass shooting attack in U.S history.

“Virginia Tech officials report a shooting this morning at West Ambler Johnston Hall dormitory on the university campus. School authorities were urging students and staff to “stay inside and away from windows.”

“The second shooting happened in Norris Hall, the engineering building near Burruss Hall. Police are on the scene and rescue workers have set up a temporary treatment facility. The campus is on lock down,” the paper reported. The student newspaper said one person died and one person was wounded in that incident.”

“People are a little shook up,” said David Loveday, 23, a graduate student who spoke by cell phone while locked in a classroom. “The campus looks deserted except for a ton of ambulances and police cars.”

The campus is closed and classes canceled. While a gunman has been arrested, students have been locked inside buildings as police try to determine if another shooter was involved.

“Stay inside your building, away from windows,” the school’s Web site said.

The media suspects the death toll will keep rising. What a complete tragedy.
