TBS has purchased the television rights to Tyler Perry’s 2008 film Meet The Browns.

The network, which already features Perry’s comedy House of Payne, has ordered 10 episodes of the sitcom based on Perry’s original stage play.

“I am so excited to continue my relationship with TBS,” Perry said in a statement Wednesday. “It has been so fulfilling artistically, I feel as if I’ve been adopted into another family. An artist such as myself cannot imagine being in a partnership with any other network.”

The film adaptation of Meet The Browns starred Angela Bassett as a g single mom from Chicago who meets the family of her estranged late father.

Actor David Mann will reprise his role from the movie as Leroy Brown, the family patriarch. Meet The Browns premieres on TBS this January

I love Tyler Perry’s work. I have supported him in everything he puts out. But watching Meet The Browns T.V. show on TBS was not what I expected. I still love Brown & Cora character but all the others I’m not feeling them. It’s too much going on and not has funny as House of Pain. Who is writing the show, it doesn’t look like Tyler’s work???

I am all for supporting Black Writers/Producers such as Tyler Perry, but I wish he would update his work. Shows are predictable and maybe im wrong but I when I see these tv shows (is it deja vu!)
Keep brown on the stage where he soooo shines and maybe guest appearances on shows/movies every now and then.

    TBS…VERY FUNNY??????
Brown on TBS a LITTLE funny…
    The show not funny…

I don’t think this show is funny at all. I still like the characters–Brown and Cora but I think it would be much more funnier if they were neighbors to the Paynes and played off of them. When I first saw the previews, I thought that’s what it would be about when Claretha moved and got married. I thought the Browns was moving in next door. What ever happen to that. Please change it back Tyler. I love your work. You are truly a Genius.

I absolutely love the show. The first two episodes had me in tears I laughed so hard. For those who do not see the humor of the show more than likely are those that grew up well off financially or are of another race. The show is like a black dysfunctional Waltons with a crazy twist. I wait with great anticipation for the episodes to come. Keep up the great work. Anita D. DeVeaux Charleston, SC

My family and I are big fans of Tyler Perry.
We have seen all his movies and own most of them. We are all going together to see Madea Goes To Jail.
We absolutely love the Madea character.
And LeRoy Brown… he is something else!
We were so looking forward to watching Meet The Browns on TV. The first couple of shows seems like Mr. Perry was trying too hard, but now it has smoothed out some. We laugh and talk about “Brown” for days. Keep the program on the air please!! And if Madea ever gets out of jail, i hope she will visit her daughter Cora and Mr. Brown from time to time.

I just watched the first episode on tbs.com, I don’t have cable. Brown is awesome but there was something odd about the comedy and the timing. It seemed like something other than stanard Tyler Perry, who I really enjoy. Still I am going to brave more episodes and I will be at the Detroit premiere of Madea Goes to Jail.

To the people that say that the Browns should live next door to the Paynes…uh…no. Why put them next door to the most unfunny family on tv. I saw the first Meet The Browns show and was like…now this show is better than all the House of Payne shows put together. How is House of Payne the highest rated tv show ever? Get out of here …that show is not funny! Meet the Brown IS funny as expected of Tyler.

I think Tyler Perry is doing a great job according to my standered he setting up different with a different message than House of Payne which is the point you don’t want him to put another show out there with the same message so good job Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry’s work is ignorant, predictable, and unimaginative. His main characters are always either extreme villians, or extreme fools for the villians. Where is the creativity?

The segment of people that support him for the sake of supporting a “religified” Black man, and claim that he is so talented makes me want to pull my hair out.

What happened to Meet the Browns? I have so much fun watching the show. I wish they would come back. I find MTB funnier than HOP. MTB had me laughing the whole show. Please put them back on. I miss them.

For those of you who don’t like Tyler Perry’s movies or shows, you have the choice to watch something else. So keep your negative comments to yourself. I don’t see you out here making a TV show or movie. If you were you would not have time to make negative comments.

For those of you who love his shows and movies, keep watching. By the way for those of you who think I am kin to Tyler or a friend of his, I don’t know this man from adam. But I can say he is doing more than you and me because we are here commenting and he is not.

Why does our race have to always talk about one another instead of having each others back. Maybe one day we can all just be happy for one another. Until this happens we will just keep pushing one another back. We NEVER want someone to have more than us.

Honestly, I do not know what the deal is with these other people. Have they ever watched any of the plays or are they only watching Tyler Perry’s work since he finally made it bigger? I love Meet the Browns. House of Payne is all right but I am always on the look out for MTB. Brown is my all time favorite character and I love seeing him interact with others in a community setting….It is so hilarious. Please tell me it is coming back soon……I do love it…..I haven’t seen anything in the email updates from Tyler on what the outlook is on it or checked the site lately but pray that it is good.
